Editorial Policy & Review Methodology
Every video on Video Biter follows the same process: real product, genuine testing, honest verdict. This page explains exactly how that process works — from how we choose products to how we publish and update reviews.
1. Editorial Independence
No brand, advertiser, or sponsor controls the editorial outcome of any review published on Video Biter. Paying for a sponsored placement does not guarantee a positive verdict. We have published unfavourable reviews of sponsored products, and we will continue to do so.
Our revenue sources — affiliate commissions and sponsorships — are disclosed transparently. We believe that transparency is the only way to earn the trust of our audience over the long term. A review that misleads a buyer into a bad purchase destroys trust far more permanently than a lost affiliate commission.
2. How Products Are Selected
Products enter our review queue through one of four routes:
🔍 Editorial Choice
Our team identifies high-demand products based on search volume, market relevance, user requests, and gaps in the existing review landscape. Products with high consumer interest but low-quality review coverage are prioritised.
📬 Reader & Viewer Requests
We accept product suggestions via our Contact page. Frequently-requested products are added to the editorial calendar. Submission does not guarantee review.
🤝 Brand Partnerships
Brands may request review coverage. Sponsored products are subject to the same testing standards as independently acquired products. The sponsor does not see or approve the review before publication.
🔄 Trend & Update Coverage
When a product we've already reviewed receives a significant hardware or firmware update, we re-test and publish an updated review rather than leaving outdated information live.
3. How Products Are Acquired
We are transparent about how each reviewed product was obtained. This information is disclosed in the review video itself. The three acquisition methods are:
- Independently purchased — bought by Video Biter with no brand involvement. These reviews have zero commercial pressure attached.
- Brand-provided (unpaid) — product supplied by the manufacturer at no cost, with no payment for coverage. We disclose this clearly. Products are returned or disclosed as retained after review.
- Sponsored — brand has paid for a review to be conducted and published. This is clearly disclosed in the video, in the listing, and in the review notes. The outcome remains entirely at our editorial discretion.
4. Testing Methodology
Minimum testing period: 7 days. No exceptions. This is enforced at the editorial level before any review is approved for recording.
Day 1–2: Setup & Initial Impressions (Not Published)
Unboxing, first setup, and initial use. We document observations but do not form a verdict yet. First-impression content is never published as a standalone review.
Day 3–6: Sustained Real-World Use
The product is used as a real consumer would use it — in actual daily conditions, not staged demos. We note performance issues, battery behaviour, app/connectivity quality, and build durability.
Day 7+: Verdict Formed
After sustained use, we reach a considered verdict. We identify the product's genuine strengths, its real-world weaknesses, and who it's best suited for.
Comparison (Where Relevant)
Where direct comparisons improve context (e.g. two competing products at the same price point), we test both before filming and reference the comparison directly in the review.
5. How Reviews Are Written & Recorded
Video Biter is a video-first platform. Written summaries and metadata descriptions are supplementary to the video, not a substitute for it.
Each review video must cover, at minimum:
- Clear identification of the product including model name and ASIN (where applicable)
- How the product was acquired (purchased, brand-provided, or sponsored)
- The testing context — how and for how long it was used
- Performance findings from real use (not spec sheet reading)
- At least one substantive criticism or limitation, even for well-performing products
- A clear, unambiguous verdict and who the product is best suited for
6. What a Quality Review Covers
Weak review: "This air fryer cooks food quickly and evenly. The basket is easy to clean. We recommend it." — This is not a review. This is a description.
Strong review: "The basket capacity is genuinely 5.8qt, which is large enough for four servings of fries without crowding — crowding being the main reason cheaper air fryers undercook. At 400°F the preheat is 3 minutes, faster than the competing unit we tested. The one genuine frustration is the touch panel: it requires firm, deliberate presses and ignores light taps, which becomes annoying when you're adjusting temperature mid-cook. At this price it's the best value we've tested in this category, but if tactile controls matter to you, the alternative with physical dials is worth the extra £20."
The difference is specificity, honesty, and usefulness. Every review on Wizard Review is held to this standard. Reviews that lack specific observations, that contain no criticism, or that read like manufacturer marketing copy are rejected and returned for re-recording.
7. Sponsorship & Disclosure Policy
Video Biter complies with the FTC's Endorsement Guides and equivalent regulations in the UK (CAP Code) and EU. All material connections between reviewers and products are disclosed.
In-Video Disclosure
Sponsorship is disclosed verbally in the video, in the first 30 seconds where applicable, and through on-screen text. "This review was sponsored by [Brand]" or "Product provided by [Brand] for review."
Listing Disclosure
The video listing on Video Biter includes a disclosure tag indicating the acquisition method. Visitors can see this without watching the video.
Affiliate Disclosure
Where affiliate links are present, a disclosure statement is shown on the page. We earn a commission if you purchase through these links at no extra cost to you.
Editorial Outcome
Sponsors are not permitted to approve, preview, or modify review content before publication. We do not guarantee a positive outcome as a condition of any sponsorship.
8. Corrections & Updates
Video Biter operates an update-not-delete policy for existing reviews:
- If a factual error is identified in a published review, an update note is added to the listing and the review is flagged for correction.
- If a significant product update (firmware, hardware revision) materially changes performance, a separate updated review is recorded and linked from the original listing.
- We do not silently edit video content. Changes are noted with a date and description.
- If you identify a factual error in one of our reviews, contact us at editorial@wizzrev.com.
9. What We Do Not Cover
Video Biter focuses exclusively on physical consumer products. We do not review software, SaaS products, digital services, financial products, healthcare treatments, or prescription items. We also do not accept reviews of products that are illegal in the UK or EU.
